We are a local branch of the BCRMTA which is a B.C. division of Canada-wide Federation of private music teachers, created under an Act of Parliament. The most important qualification of the Association's members is that they must hold a recognized music degree or Associate teacher's diploma from a University or Conservatory. Such qualification demonstrates a high level of musical ability and education, and a commitment to professionalism. Our aim is to provide the highest caliber of music instructions possible.
Trail Branch of the BCRMTA was founded in 1944 with 9 members. Currently there are 7 active members in the Greater Trail and Castlegar areas, all specializing in piano and theory. (The name was officially changed to BCRMTA - Trail/Castlegar Branch in April, 2003.)
Besides giving private lessons, we hold several student recitals a year, celebrate Canada Music Week with a recital and a composition contest, award scholarships to deserving students, prepare students for the Festival of the Arts and the examinations for the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Conservatory Canada, organize workshops for the students and teachers, organize and present quality musical performances such as the Young Artist series and Piano Six, raise money for the Variety Club Telethon, etc.
This fall, we are planning a mini-festival, titled A Celebration of Romantic Music, with the guest adjudicator, Arne Sahlen of Kimberley, B.C.
