Shields Johnston Fielding started as an all-star kitchen jam in 2008 that has now evolved into a polished original outfit. Pushing the boundaries of traditional jazz composition through an exploratory approach, the trio's sound pulls listeners into lush, smoky ballads, driving grooves, and soaring melodies. SJF draws on influences as diverse as Brazilian folk music, Stravinsky, Bach and the music of West Africa. The players share a deep commitment to a warm and intimate sound. Audiences become acutely aware of their joy and camaraderie during live performances.
